Three generations in the Great Basin — a family Angus program in Fallon, Nevada.

Our Story

Rafter 9 Ranch was re-established in 2020 as a working cattle operation in Churchill County, Nevada. What started as a commercial cow-calf herd has grown into a focused seedstock program — registered Black Angus bulls and females bred to perform in the Great Basin. We irrigate our ground, put up our own hay, and calve out the whole cow herd every spring. Whether it’s a bull, a heifer, or a box of beef, it was raised right here.

Owner & Operator

Mark has run cattle for forty years and manages every day of the operation — feeding, calving, AI breeding, and bull development. He’s the reason the cattle are what they are.

David handles the business side — genetics selection, customer relationships, marketing, and planning. He grew up on the ranch and is building its next chapter.

Scott handles beef sales — helping customers set up quarters, halves, and shares — and lends a hand across the outfit wherever he’s needed.

A Family Operation

Rafter 9 Ranch runs on family. Brothers, sons, and the next generation all pitch in — branding, sorting, putting up hay, and hauling to the sale. When there’s work to do, everybody shows up. That’s how a small program stays hands-on and how every animal gets the attention it deserves.

We’re in Nevada’s high desert — but our cattle never see the sage. They run on irrigated pasture, green ground with winter hay we put up ourselves. Fallon is the Oasis of Nevada, and the whole program is built on that irrigated bottomland.

We’ve consigned bulls to the Great Basin Bull Sale since its early years. GBBS draws commercial producers from Nevada, Idaho, Utah, and California — some of the toughest, most practical bull buyers in the West.One Range Ready bull sells there Sat, Feb 13, 2027. Our other bulls sell private treaty.
